Controller

Reports to: President

Department: Accounting

Job Summary: The Controller will have overall responsibility for all aspects of finance and accounting for the company.

Duties & Responsibilities: The Controller will design, implement and monitor financial systems and controls to preserve company assets and provide for the accurate recording, reporting and evaluating of the activities and performance of the organization. Key responsibilities also include internal and external reporting, treasury management and financing, financial risk management, all aspects of taxation, forecasting and budgeting, product costing, and financial analysis. The Controller will work closely with IT and operational areas to optimize the utilization of systems and processes to gain efficiencies and effectiveness in transaction processing, reporting, and visibility to key performance metrics.

Specifically:

Finance
  • Project the ongoing cash and debt needs of the company
  • Arrange for and provide adequate debt financing for the company
  • Monitor and manage daily cash and debt activities
  • Arrange for and negotiate insurance coverage adequate to protect the assets and activities of the company
  • Monitor and analyze the tax position of the company as needed, including proactively recommending methods to improve tax efficiency
Accounting
  • Lead and manage the accounting department functions including billing, costing, accounts receivable, employee payroll, accounts payable, general ledger and asset management, and reporting
  • Provide for processes and procedures to ensure adequate segregation of duties and overall internal controls
  • Establish procedures to ensure the integrity of the general ledger (account reconciliations)
  • Coordinate with other business and administrative areas to ensure efficient operations, proper assignment of duties, and effective utilization of, and changes to, computer systems and applications
Reporting
  • Continually assess the business and financial reporting needs of the company (including owners/Board of Directors) to provide information in an effective, usable and timely manner
  • Proactively work with management and the business areas to identify key metrics that will help portray results in a more useful manner
  • Work with the IT function to fully utilize the capabilities of computer systems and our desktop tools to facilitate efficient, automated reporting whenever possible
Planning
  • Lead the annual profit planning and budgeting process
  • Perform and/or lead the completion of business/financial analysis as necessary
  • Assist in strategic planning processes and reporting as necessary
  • Develop financial and tax strategies in a proactive manner
  • Develop reporting as needed to monitor progress of strategic initiatives
Leadership
  • Effectively lead the accounting team by hiring and retaining strong talent, including providing for growth opportunities and succession planning
Compliance
  • Ensure all internal and external financial reporting complies with GAAP (with due regard for materiality) as they apply to the company and its business.
  • Ensure that the reporting needs of all external entities are being met that may include banks, states, taxation, 401(k).
  • Ensure that all tax (income, sales and use, and employee payroll) deposits and tax returns are made and filed properly and timely
  • Develop and maintain appropriate document retention methodologies
  • Develop and implement adequate business continuity procedures for the function and coordinate them with those in place for the company
  • Maintain a work environment that is safe, non- discriminatory, and in full compliance with all company policies and legal requirements Establish documentation and procedures to allow the effective review or audit of financial activities by any external entity (outside auditors, Departments of Revenue, etc.)
Operations
  • Work with the business management groups to help them understand product costs and margins, and how the financial and key metrics information can help them improve business performance Work with management and business areas as necessary to assess the need for reserves, write- downs, and/or potential claims
  • Assist managers in the collection of past due receivables and billings
  • Participate in key decisions with management and operations as needed
  • Participate on acquisition/disposition due diligence as necessary
  • Position all areas of the finance and accounting function to utilize best practices, continually improve, and meet the ongoing needs of a growing company
  • Model integrity and good leadership in day-to-day activities
  • Maintain good communication and collaboration with direct supervisor, the department, and other leaders within the company
  • Participate in team building activities for the company and within the function
Other
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned or apparent

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
  • A minimum 10 years of accounting experience. More specifically, experience within the accounting and finance functions of a manufacturing firm is preferred.
  • A minimum 5 years of leadership experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated communication skills, including listening, writing and speaking.
  • Excellent independent and team collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to work independently and manage projects with many moving parts and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
  • Software applications utilized include DIS, Epicor and Fabsuite
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred

Machine Operator Saw

Reports to: Ag Supervisor

Department: Ag Production

Job Summary: Responsible for operating saw in manufacturing division.

Duties & Responsibilities: The saw operator has knowledge of commonly used sawing material concepts, practices and procedures and relies on pre-established guidelines to perform job. Under general supervision operates various tools and equipment.

Specifically:

  • Run saw safely and productively.
  • Run crane and obtain own material.
  • Read prints to cut pitches, mitre cuts.
  • Complete daily production reports.
  • Communicate needs with Purchasing Department.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Qualifications:
  1. Proven self-starter with ability to take instruction as needed.
  2. Ability to read tape measure to 1/16 of an inch.
  3. Good problem solving abilities.
  4. Proficient computer skills, with ability to use MS Outlook.
  5. Ability to perform all operations accurately and within acceptable quality and time standards.
  6. Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions; possess good interpersonal communication skills to work well with others.
Education & Experience:
  1. HS Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience operating a saw machine, preferred.
  3. Prior experience in a production environment, preferred.
  4. Forklift truck experience, preferred.

General Laborer Assembly

Reports to: Transport Supervisor

Department: Ag Assembly Production

Job Summary: The general laborer - assembly provides production support by assembling product and ensuring a safe work environment.

Duties & Responsibilities: Under general supervision, performs assembly production responsibilities.

Specifically:

  • Assists with final assembly per established McFarlane Mfg. Co. practices and procedures.
  • Assists supervisor with production flow, organization and efficiency.
  • Assist in manufacturing prototypes for R&D.
  • Ensure production areas are free of debris and dirt.
  • Ensure defective products or observed equipment malfunctions are reported and repaired.
  • Operate forklift and overhead cranes.
  • Produce high quality finished products.
  • Package finished products and crate for shipment.
  • Practice safe work habits and follows general safety procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Education, Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
  1. HS Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Forklift certified or ability to become certified.

Assembly & Finished Goods Supervisor

Reports to: General Manager

Department: Manufacturing Facility

Job Summary: This is a working supervisory position leading the Ag Manufacturing Assembly staff to safely and cost effectively produce quality products and services.

Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities include problem solving; training employees; assigning, directing and checking work; addressing complaints and communicating information to staff, peers and management. Specifically:

Specifically:

  1. Embrace and lead company core values by example and through integration into all team activities and discussions.
  2. Coordinate & support production activities for R&D, final assembly & Packaging of finish goods to ensure materials, documents and processes are compliant with established McFarlane Mfg. Co. practices and procedures.
  3. Collaborate with peer Supervisors, Leads and staff to drive safety, production flow, organization, efficiency for area; continually improving staff, work areas & processes.
  4. Anticipate and recognize people, process and tool issues with sense of urgency towards resolution and related communication up, down and across with appropriate parties to find and implement solution(s).
  5. Ability to constructively train and lead staff as needed to safely produce high quality parts.
  6. Establish quality systems and related proactive audits to ensure 100% quality product and shipments.
  7. Practice safe work habits and follow general safety procedures such as proper lifting and bending, ergonomics, proper use of equipment and use of personal protection equipment (PPE); demonstrate accountability for all safety procedures; enforce McFarlane Mfg. Co. safety standards and policies, leading by example.
  8. Openly communicate, encourage and support team; Facilitate staff meetings and daily stand-ups utilizing corrective actions, near miss reports and other inputs as needed.
  9. Manage staff performance, attendance & timekeeping, development and corrective action to achieve goals.
  10. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:
  1. Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Prior experience or training in manufacturing environment with mechanical assembly.
  3. Prior supervisory experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives preferred.

Welder

Reports to: Ag Supervisor or Structural Shop Manager

Department: Ag Production or Structural

Job Summary: Responsible for ag production department or structural department welding projects.

Duties & Responsibilities: Welder has knowledge of commonly used welding concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on pre-established guidelines to perform the job.

Specifically, in only Structural Welding Department:

  • Learn full-pen welds.
  • Use a torch, hand held plasma torch, carbon arc.

Specifically, in both Ag Production & Structural Welding Departments:

  • Weld in GMAW Process.
  • Read and interpret weld symbols.
  • Follow weld marking requirements.
  • Ensure completed welds are of acceptable visual quality.
  • Operate overhead cranes.
  • Utilize resources to ensure efficient and timely completion of work.
  • Understand and follow all McFarlane quality and safety procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as requested.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Education And Required Skills And Qualifications:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent; technical degree in welding preferred.
  2. Metal materials methods a plus.
